What’s the Difference Between NLP, NLU, and NLG?

While natural language processing (NLP), natural language understanding (NLU), and natural language generation (NLG) are all related topics, they are distinct ones. Given how they intersect, they are commonly confused within conversation, but in this post, we’ll define each term individually and summarize their differences to clarify any ambiguities. Today’s Natural Language Understanding (NLG), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Natural Language Generation (NLG) technologies are implementations of various machine learning algorithms, but that wasn’t always the case.

For example, a computer can use NLG to automatically generate news articles based on data about an event. It could also produce sales letters about specific products based on their attributes.

The goal of question answering is to give the user response in their natural language, rather than a list of text answers. Natural language understanding and generation are two computer programming methods that allow computers to understand human speech.
To cope with the above mentioned cases, you might want to preload/pre-initialize your intents. A good time to do this may be on skill startup or at some other time that makes sense for your use-case. While this gives you more flexibility in terms of what you can do with the response, when you manually raise a response with a new intent manually construct the second response and intent.
Platforms Tailored for NLU Tasks
Natural language understanding (NLU) refers to a computer’s ability to understand or interpret human language. Once computers learn AI-based natural language understanding, they can serve a variety of purposes, such as voice assistants, chatbots, and automated translation, to name a few. Natural language processing, that is, natural language communication, or natural language understanding and natural language generation, is very difficult. The root reason is the widespread variable ambiguity in natural language text and dialog. From the format, a Chinese text is a string formed by characters (including punctuation). Characters can form words, words can form sentences, and then some sentences form paragraphs, sections, chapters, and article.
These embeddings represent words in a continuous vector space, capturing semantic relationships. Words with similar meanings are located closer to each other in this vector space, forming a foundation for NLU systems to decipher the semantic roles and relationships of words within sentences. It has made possible the development of conversational AI, chatbots, virtual assistants, and sentiment analysis systems that have become integral to our daily lives.
